I was worried about the short layover time at Singapore, but security and other formalities went through so fast that I still had a little bit of time to check out SilverKris Lounge.

SilverKris Business Class Lounge is also used by Star Alliance partners and located one floor above the departure hall. This was a huge lounge and in addition I found there were sofas or chairs everywhere.

Also, I saw lots of high chairs at the buffet counters and there were also dining tables and chairs in the dining area. I saw some long sofas as well that possibly could be used to lie down and take a mini nap.

The food section had an extensive selection of foods and desserts. If I had time, I would go nuts trying all these foods.

I will name a few of the items: Snapper with honey ginger, pasta, sweet curried potato, braised noodles, braised beef, a variety of curry, a variety of pre-made sandwiches, Mee siam, Dau suan, Siu mai, lots of seafoods, a variety of salads, fruits, cakes, yogurts, and much more.

However, my short time there made it impossible to try anything. I only had time to walk around and look at everything there.

The best part was the shower facility. I went into one just to see how it looked. Each shower room was like a private bathroom with a standing shower on one side and a basin on the other side. It looked like a small Hilton hotel bathroom, but without the toilet.

They even had mini soap, shampoo, a disposable razor, a comb, and lotion like you find at hotels. The SilverKris Business Class Lounge had one of the best shower facilities I have seen at airport lounges.

Although quite big, I found the SilverKris Business Class Lounge crowded. But it would definitely be a good choice if you want to sample lots of food and take a nice shower.

Kuala Lumpur to Singapore | Singapore Airlines Business Class

My first flight from Kuala Lumpur to Singapore was on Singapore Airlines SQ 107 Airbus A330-300. This was a short distance, only 296 km. Total flight time on the itinerary said 1 hour.

The aircraft was old and showed its age. I had a window seat and no one was sitting next to me. The seat was comfortable and there was a pillow provided. There was no blanket, but none was needed due to the short flight. Also, the amenity kit was provided.

Once the flight departed, I saw flight attendants were rushing to serve food. I realised that the flight was even shorter than 1 hour, and hence the rush.

I had tomato sauce and mutton curry tortilla. There was no big food menu like you usually get on business class because of the time limitation.

I went to the washroom just to make a video. It was spacious and clean, but I didn’t see much amenities.

I came back to my seat, but didn’t feel like making it lie-flat or recline. Before I knew it, it was time to land in Singapore. No wonder flight attendants were rushing to finish serving food. The flight could not have been more than 40 minutes.

My overall impression was how pleasant flying Singapore Airlines business was. However, I would be happier if I had a newer plane. I wouldn’t hesitate to fly business class again on Singapore Airlines.

My layover time in Singapore was only 1H, 45M to connect to EVA AIR BR 226. I was a bit worried about completing all the formalities to catch my next flight on time.

Kuala Lumpur Travel Blog: Part 10

My flight to Toronto (YYZ) was divided into 3 parts. The first leg of my journey was on Singapore Airlines Business Class from Kuala Lumpur to Singapore (KUL – SIN). This was my first time flying Singapore Airlines and trying their business-class lounge, which was called SilverKris Lounge.

The lounge was located in the KLIA Satellite Building, which was far from the main building. SilverKris Lounge, which is also a Star Alliance-affiliated lounge, was located on the mezzanine level. You will find other lounges on the same level.

It was difficult to find this lounge and I had to ask a few times for someone to point it out. There was no proper signage directing travelers to the SilverKris Lounge. However, it was close to the Thai Airways Royal Silk Lounge, which had adequate signage. People told me to find Royal Silk Lounge first and then look for the SilverKris Lounge close to it.

The SilverKris Lounge was really small and one of the worst lounges I have ever experienced. I didn’t find the receptionist or attendees too friendly, which was a contrast with Singapore Airlines’ friendly service in general.

There were not too many seat options. Food selection was poor, too. There were alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. I only tried some light snacks and coffee.

The restroom was very small and didn’t feel like a lounge restroom. Usually, I video lounge restrooms for lounge reviews on YouTube, but refrained from taking any video or pictures because there was nothing to show.

The best part of the lounge was the nice runway views. I spent my time watching planes landing and some Malaysian Airlines planes loading cargo.

My last full day in Kuala Lumpur was Dec 20, 2018. My first flight was at 10:25 from Kuala Lumpur to Singapore. I got up very early, aiming to leave the hotel by 6:30.

There was no Uber in Kuala Lumpur, but there was the Uber replacement called Grab. I had to open an account just for this one trip to the airport. The Grab picked me up in front of my hotel at 6:25. Reaching the airport took less than an hour and cost RM 65.00, around CA$ 20.

After reaching the airport I went through security and everything, assuming I was done and would be looking for the lounge. However, it turned out that KUL airport is a little different and I had to take a shuttle to go to another section of the airport.

There were airport personnel guiding travelers through the proper gates to take the shuttle. It was crowded, but didn’t take long to board the shuttle rail. I felt like the other airport terminal was far away from the first terminal, but I finally reached it. 

My first leg of the journey was from KUL to SIN, business class on Singapore Airlines. My lounge was Singapore Airlines SilverKris Lounge at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL). So, I started looking for this lounge.

Asking here and there, I finally arrived at the lounge. Singapore Airlines SilverKris at KUL was a comparatively small lounge that I will review in the next post.

Kuala Lumpur Travel Blog: Part 8 | A Tower Inside a Forest

My last full day in Kuala Lumpur was Dec 19, 2019. I had a Half-Day Kuala Lumpur City Tour starting at 9:00 AM. My flight from Kuala Lumpur would leave the next day on Dec 20 at 10:25 AM.

My Half-Day Kuala Lumpur city tour lasted only 3 hours and I didn’t have any repeats from my Discover Amazing Kuala Lumpur City Tour, except the National Mosque.

This time, I had two female companions from the USA, so we were three people in one car.

We took some pictures in front of the Petronas Towers, which once used to be the tallest buildings in the world from 1998 to 2004.

We also visited Kuan Ti Temple, Sri Mahamariamman Temple, KLCC Park, The Kuala Lumpur Tower (KL Tower), and much more. The Kuala Lumpur Tower, at 421 meters tall, gave me an opportunity to experience aerial views of greater Malaysia.  KL Tower is located within the Bukit Nanas Forest Reserve, making it the only tower in the world located inside a forest.

After finishing the trip, I was back in my hotel by 2:00. I went to the mall in the same building for lunch and evening coffee. I spent some time taking pictures of the hotel (DoubleTree Hilton Hotel Kuala Lumpur) swimming pool, which was pretty nice.

DoubleTree Hilton Hotel was one of the best Hilton hotels I have stayed in, so I was happy to have free time to spend in the hotel vicinity and in my suite.

Tomorrow, I will be heading for Toronto. My flight will leave KUL in the morning and this all-business-class-trip will have 3 different flights. I will talk about all that in upcoming posts.
