The New Blackberry Playbook Tablet

The New Blackberry Playbook

The tablet wars are on across North America thanks to the revolutionary iPad, which has started the tablet market with such a force that many were caught off-guard by its success. To that end, Blackberry does not want to be left out of the tablet wars and have announced the introduction of their Blackberry Playbook, a small tablet computer they hope will compete with Apple iPad.

The PlayBook is 9.7 mm thick, making it the smallest tablet computer ever made, and the first below 10 mm in thickness. The company is expecting to deliver the product to its developers and enterprise customers by October, with it being widely released by early 2011.

Prior to the release of the product, there was a great deal of speculation about the tablet, nicknamed the BlackPad.

So, what can you expect from the PlayBook when it is widely released in 2011 to all of us? Here are just a few things:

1.   It will have a seven inch screen, which will allow a resolution of 1024 x 600, which will support the multi-touch operation and gesture system with a form factor of 5.1 inches by 7.6 inches by .4 inches, giving it a total weight of just under one pound.

2.   Two high-definition cameras that will be mounted on the front and back will support the video , giving it something the iPad does not have (although the next iPad model is expected to have cameras). The Playbook cameras will be three megapixels and five megapixels and a micro-HDMI socket will provide the ability for digital-video output and the screen will have a HDMI interface so it can show different images simultaneously.

3.   As with the iPad, which has the AppStore, the PlayBook will have the ability to use Blackberry smartphone applications, which will be provided by the BlackBerry WebWorks toolkit, which will allow applications to be written on both the smartphone software (BlackBerry OS 6) and the tablet software (BlackBerry Tablet OS).

4.   In addition, the tablet will also have a web browser that supports Adobe Flash, which the iPad does not, and HTML5.

While the first version of the PlayBook will have no telephone capabilities, relying instead on Bluetooth communication, future versions of the PlayBook will have the capability to make telephone calls.

So, when will it be released in the United States and elsewhere? Well, as we already said, it will be released in the United States in early 2011, but elsewhere it will be released in the second quarter, which means between April and June 2011.

Will the PlayBook take a bite out of the market that the iPad currently dominates? Tough to say since Blackberry is a phone company, not a computer company. However, many thought the same about Apple selling cell phones but they effectively changed what people by with the iPhone. So, only time will tell to see if the PlayBook will be the Apple killer, or if it will be itself, killed by Apple.

How The 2010 Commonwealth Games Changed India’s Image

The Changing World View of India

First Published Date : October 24, 2010 ADawnJournal.com

There was a time when India was looked at as a backward nation that no one wanted to visit. It was a nation people saw as dirty, dangerous and a place you just did not want to go. However, that has long since changed and India is now changing to a nation that is progressive and rapidly becoming a developed nation.

Yes, the economy of India is moving fast, the middle class of India is growing, cars are becoming plentiful and poverty is rapidly falling. However, there are other ways that India is changing and this comes into the fact that it is now hosting world-class competitions.

The 2010 World Cup was held in South Africa, the first time it was ever held in Africa and that helped to show that countries once thought of as Third World could in fact hold world-class competitions. Rio De Janeiro is hosting the 2016 Summer Olympics and India just hosted the 2010 Commonwealth Games.

While there were some problems with the games recently, overall the Commonwealth Games were very successful and popular. This means that India has proven it can take on a major world competition and that means the changing world view of India could be changing to the point where India may be hosting the Summer Olympics in as little as 10 years.

After hosting the 2010 Commonwealth Games, the India Olympic Association said that Delhi will be bidding on the 2020 Olympics. The Indian Sports Minister Manohar Gill stated that there would be funding for the 2020 bid and that Delhi is very interested in hosting the games. While some worry about the problems with the Commonwealth Games affecting the potential for the Olympics to be held in India, there is a good chance that India could be hosting those games.

Other countries trying to host the games include Mexico, Canada, several countries in Europe, South Africa, Morocco, Japan and South Korea. If the games end up in India, it would be the largest event ever held in the country and would go a long way to helping show the world that India has changed.

Just 20 years ago, the thought of India hosting the Olympics was unimaginable. It was just not possible given the infrastructure of the country. However, things have changed so much that it is now possible. After all, in 2008 China hosted the Olympics and they were considered to be far behind the rest of the world only 20 years ago.

The world is changing and India is changing as well. India is joining a host of countries in South America, Asia and even Africa who may be leading the world in the future. The sphere of influence is changing and with the Commonwealth Games in India, the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro and the World Cup in South Africa, we can see that there are changing perceptions of these countries. This is the changing view of India around the world in the 21st century.

Malaysia Travel Blog: Last Day in Kuala Lumpur – At the KUL Airport

Kuala Lumpur Travel Blog: Part 9

My last full day in Kuala Lumpur was Dec 20, 2018. My first flight was at 10:25 from Kuala Lumpur to Singapore. I got up very early, aiming to leave the hotel by 6:30.

There was no Uber in Kuala Lumpur, but there was the Uber replacement called Grab. I had to open an account just for this one trip to the airport. The Grab picked me up in front of my hotel at 6:25. Reaching the airport took less than an hour and cost RM 65.00, around CA$ 20.

After reaching the airport I went through security and everything, assuming I was done and would be looking for the lounge. However, it turned out that KUL airport is a little different and I had to take a shuttle to go to another section of the airport.

There were airport personnel guiding travelers through the proper gates to take the shuttle. It was crowded, but didn’t take long to board the shuttle rail. I felt like the other airport terminal was far away from the first terminal, but I finally reached it.

My first leg of the journey was from KUL to SIN, business class on Singapore Airlines. My lounge was Singapore Airlines SilverKris Lounge at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL). So, I started looking for this lounge.

Asking here and there, I finally arrived at the lounge. Singapore Airlines SilverKris at KUL was a comparatively small lounge that I will review in the next post.

How To Save Money In Retirement

Saving Money In Retirement

First Published Date : October 28, 2010 ADawnJournal.com

As you get older, you are going to want to think of ways that you can save money in retirement. Saving money is very important because you will not have as much of an income coming in and you need to prepare for a lot of costs, including medical. While you may have a lot of money in the bank, that does not mean you should spend it without thinking.

So, how can you save money in your retirement so your savings go a long way?

1.   First, you need to determine how much money you need each year. This should include your insurance costs, travel costs and the cost of day-to-day activities.

2.   Calculate how much money you have coming in from investments, your pension, your tax-deferred income like IRAs and more. You will need an income that equals about 75 per cent of your current pay, which means that if you made $100,000 a year, then you will need $50,000 to $75,000 a year.

3.   Keep in mind the rise of inflation, which can vary between one to five per cent per year. The money you have now will not go as long of a way as it will in 20 years.

4.   Talk with a financial planner about how much money you are going to need and ways that you can make your retirement savings grow over time. The financial planner will cost you money, but it will also earn you and save you money.

5.   Cut back on anything you do not need to spend money on. Go through your expenses and determine what you can cut back on. This is very important to do because you want to save money anywhere you can. If you do not need a second car in retirement, then sell the car and put the money into your retirement funds. Do you need the house you have or can you move to s smaller one?

6.   You should also determine ways that you can bring extra money in. This does not include your investments or pension, but doing hobbies that will earn you money. If you enjoy working with clay, wood or stone, then you can make things that you can sell at a market. It is something you can do to fill your spare time, which you have a lot of, and you are not working a full time job.

When you want to save money in retirement, you need to determine what you can cut back on, where you can make money and how you are going to live. Retirement is not like the rest of your life when you are dealing with money coming in at a regular basis. You do have money coming in, but it will not be as much money as you are used to, and that means you have to make adjustments in your life to meet that new requirement within your life. Retirement can be fun, you just need to know how to manage it properly.

Acer Aspire Timeline 13.3 Laptop Review

Acer Aspire Timeline Review

First Published Date : October 31, 2010 ADawnJournal.com

I bought my new Acer Aspire 13.3 inch laptop about a month ago. This is my second product in the Acer series. My first Acer Netbook is still working fine and never had any problems. Today, I am going to do a short review on the Acer Timeline 13.3 inch Ultra-portable notebook.

Specifications

– Intel Core i5 – 430M processor 2.26 GHz 3MB L3 cache
– 500 GB Hard drive
– 4 GB DDR3 memory
– 13.3 inch True Cinematic View Acer CineCrystal LED Back-lit 18:9 HD Display
– ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470 graphics card with 512MB dedicated memory, Up to
  2138 MB HyperMemory
– 6-cell Li-ion battery Up to 8 hrs battery life
– Dolby Home Theater Virtual SurroundSound
– Ultralight, Ultra-portable

Cons

– Does not have an optical drive
– Bilingual keyboard can cause trouble. Sometimes I have difficulty using inverted come
and some other characters because I think French characters keep popping up. There
should be a separate French model.
– Given the fact that this is a high-performance laptop, its 1.3-MP cam just does not
integrate well into it. There is room for improvement in future models.

My Take

Most likely, you will not find the features and performance that this Acer 13.3 inch Timeline provides at a price like this anywhere else. The built materials look excellent, not cheap like Dell or Toshiba. This is an excellent buy and I am happy that I decided to buy this over anything else. If other manufactures do not come up with great products at cheaper prices like Acer, they will have difficulty competing with Acer in the future.
