Part 3 - What Is A Dot Com Lifestyle?

Warning: Do not quit you job right after reading this article. Do quit once your entrepreneurship starts making more money than your 9 – 5 paycheque .

What Is a Dot Com Lifestyle?

Dot com lifestyle is not about what it sounds like, as you will find out reading the following links. Dot com lifestyle is not about making truck loads of money, driving over-priced cars, eating out everyday at fine restaurants, and visiting a new country every week. While you may be able to achieve some of these I just mentioned, most of the bloggers (or Internet entrepreneurs) have decided to live a simple family-oriented life, just like you and I. However, they have something which we don’t have. They are living on their own terms and they have ridiculously flexible lifestyle choices. What I think of the dot com lifestyle? These are what come to my mind and keep me motivated all the time:

  • Work two hours a day and five days a week
  • Live in a new country for every six months a year (if you have a family, make it two to four months)
  • The whole world is your office (you can work anywhere as long as you have your laptop and internet connection)
  • Live on your own terms
  • Have ridiculously flexible lifestyle choices

Now, let’s look at the dot com lifestyle of some actual people who are already living it:

John Chow – A Canadian Blogger residing in Richmond, BC

The Dot Com Lifestyle

Nick Ramsay – Lives in Japan with his wife and one child. Her Japanese wife picked up one English phrase very quickly: “I am not your maid!”

My Dot Com Lifestyle in Japan

Bob Buskirk – A 21 year old Internet entrepreneur living in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. And yes, there are even 18 year olds and younger living a dot com lifestyle as well.

Living the Dot Com Lifestyle

Steve Pavlina – Personal Development Guru. His website gets more than 2 million visitors per month. This article is little different than those mentioned above.

Can Anyone Make A Living Blogging?

Part 1 - Do Not Quit Your Job Right After Reading This Article

Warning: Do not quit you job right after reading this article. Do quit once your entrepreneurship starts making more money than your 9 – 5 paycheque.

We all know that successful blogs or websites can make tremendous amounts of money.

Here’s a list of sites that are making loads of money.

Boing Boing

Makes over $1 million a year.

Mashable

This technology blog makes roughly $165,000 a month.

Darren Rowse

Estimated earnings between $120,000 to $1,200,000. He pioneered moneymaking techniques in blogging.

Steve Pavlina

Personal Development Guru. He makes $480,000 annually from blogging activities.

Plenty of Fish

Markus Frind, a Canadian, makes $5 to $10 million a year from this free dating site.

Ashley Qualls

Seventeen year old high school dropout makes $75,000 a month from her website.

The list goes on. If you are interested in finding out more about how much money webmasters/bloggers make – check out Paula’s list of blogger salaries.

After successfully running my two websites (www.adawnjournal.com and www.adawn.net) for more than a year, I have come to the conclusion that the Internet opens up endless possibilities and diverse opportunities to make money from blogging and Internet businesses. Although I have an idea of how Internet businesses work, I am not going to talk about it simply because I do not own and am not planning to start any one anytime soon. Today, I am going to discuss whether it is possible for anyone to make a living blogging.

Part 2 - Can Anyone Make A Living Blogging?

Yes, anyone can do this. In order to live a dot com lifestyle, you need to have a few things, and I am coming to that. I know what you are thinking … if this is so easy, why isn’t everyone doing it? I think the simple answer is because we are programmed to think inside the box, i.e. work the traditional 9 to 5 job for your whole life and retire when you are old. Also, most of us don’t even think to try something different. If you gather 100 people and tell them that they can make a living blogging, you might get only 1 to give it a try. The other 99 might dismiss it with the assumption that that this it is too good to be true and that it’s not achievable for them. We are often afraid to try something new and unwilling to leave our traditional comfort zone. Those who are not afraid to try something new, and have determination, confidence, and belief in themselves can make a living blogging.

Keep Your Dot Com Lifestyle Simple and Uncomplicated

Dot Com Lifestyle

Before Google lifted its ban on John Chow, a “dot com lifestyle” search would put my site, A Dawn Journal, as number one on search results on Google’s first page. Once Google lifted the ban, A Dawn Journal began appearing right beneath John’s site on search results pages. The article which is causing the appearance is this one:

What Is A Dot Com Lifestyle?

In the above article, which is a four-part series, I mentioned what a dot come lifestyle means to me. Here are the main five characteristics of a dot com lifestyle:

Work two hours a day and five days a week

Live in a new country for every six months a year (if you have a family, make it two to four months)

The whole world is your office (you can work anywhere as long as you have your laptop and internet connection)

Live on your own terms

Have ridiculously flexible lifestyle choices

These characteristics are not set in stone. You can change or modify them based on your own lifestyle or needs. I get a feeling of living a dot com lifestyle on the weekends only, as I still have to maintain my full time job. Every Saturday, I go to Tim Hortons or Starbucks with my Netbook and Mobile Internet Stick and work 3 – 4 hours writing articles, updating my sites, replying to emails, and so on.

A dot come lifestyle does not have to be complicated and out of the ordinary. I like keeping things simple and hope to live a simple and an ordinary life once I reach my goal of living a full-time dot com lifestyle. This is what the Entrepreneur Journey website is all about and I invite you to be a part of it.

How To Come Up With Great Domain Names

Domain Name Ideas and Tips

One thing I am constantly doing and never fall short of is my relentless pursuit for great domain ideas or domain names. Today, I will share a few things on how to come up with great domain names out of thin air.

Creativity is your number one asset – if you want to be a proud owner of some world-class, high-end domain names. Whenever I don’t need to be attentive and can free up my mind, I put my mind to work questing for domain names. Most people will let their mind wander when on the subway, standing in line, or just wandering around and wasting time; however, I see these moments as an opportunity and concentrate on finding great domain names. Here are a few tips I can share with you. These tips have worked for me and if you use them, they will work for you too.

- Always keep your eye and mind open. Pay attention to details when you are watching TV, reading signboards or store names while walking, reading a newspaper, and so on. Why? Because you may bump into some words or variations of words that can be used as domain names. For example, I came up with Dotcomdiary.com, Earthroadmap.com, and Globalboundaries.com just doing what I just mentioned.

- Keep a notebook and pen handy on your table, next to your bed, in your bag, etc. This happens to me a lot – I wake up in the middle of the night with a domain name burning in my head. Because of keeping a pen and notebook handy everywhere, I am able to write down the domain idea that woke me up in the middle of night and research it later when I get a chance. I came up with domains like beyondyourimaginations.com, greenlivingjourney.com and many others because I was able to write down right away.

- If you are waiting in line or riding the subway and can’t find anything to do, play around with some words and variations domain ideas. For example, one day the word “Roadmap” somehow struck my mind and I got infatuated with this word. Since then, I have been building one after another great domain names with this word “Roadmap.” Some of my Roadmap related domains are: Earthroadmap.com, Roadmaptosaving.com, Roadmaptosaving.com, RoadmaptoChina.com and much more.

- Use domain tools such as Domainbots.com to help you create domains with those words you are enthusiastic about. If you enter a word in Domain Bots search and hit enter, it will give you many variations with that word and also will tell you which are available. For example, I found many domains tied with “Green” and “Travel” from my search results on Domain Bot.

- Many domain names are dropping out of someone’s portfolio because the owner forgot to renew, gave up Internet Entrepreneurship, or simply can’t afford to hold them anymore. There are many sites that list those domain names that are about to expire or have recently expired. Go through these lists and who knows, you may be able to pick up your gem from these dropped-out domains. I found domains like 1timecash.com, 1tourtravel.com, and Realestateexpedition.com because someone else forgot or decided not to renew these domains.

There are many other ways to come up with great domain names. I can think of the above I mentioned right now off the top of my head. If you are into domains, you will come up with your own ways. If you can’t think of something right away, never give up and keep trying. It will all come to you slowly.

Are Money Making Ads Real or Just Hype?

Can I make money on the Internet?

It seems everywhere we look from our mailbox to the television some one is getting rich fast on the internet. In addition, the moneymaking possibilities are endless. If you are interested in making money, how does one know where to start? Do we buy into the ads and start selling for EBay or Google, or do we find our own niche and market the minefield of green? Whatever the base for your online money making business it is best to remember that nothing comes free. Hard work and dedication are needed in any venture and sticking a lot of money into proven systemsmay not be your best bet.

When dealing with Internet business it is in your best interest to find a niche that you are familiar with and can be happily involved in on a daily basis. Once you find your optimal business opportunity, create a website, and are ready to start selling it is important to sell the website as well to drive traffic to your site. SEO Articles are helpful but it is important to find available search engines and to create the articles needed to advertise. This in itself for the Entrepreneur can be very daunting but there are several services that can help market your wares. There are freelancers available to write your articles and companies to incorporate your articles into useful formats. The most important thing is to generate SEO Articles that are useful and informative, including well written. The trend today seems to be computer-generated articles with a lot of unuseful information with several keywords to drive traffic. This can drive traffic but it is best to stay ahead of the trend and keep it honest for a lasting customer base.

If selling yourself or a product is not what interests you but possibly maintaining a website that sells itself and creates income from generated revenue depending on the visitors and ads placed on your site then there are several opportunities as well. One such tool is Google Ad sense and offers you to be paid per click or sale from other sites. You advertise their links on your site, blog, forum, hub and other tools. This can be lucrative if you have content that people are searching for and the ads generate themselves in relation to your content or you can customize these ads as well. A good tool in combination with this system is to advertise and generate through other forms such as Facebook or Twitter. The idea is the more you market, the more traffic you generate and the more money possibilities you earn in this type of Internet business.

Including moneymaking ads, you can also include Affiliate Accounts in which you provide direct links to sites selling products in which you are paid a percentage of sales. As with all other ventures, you have to market your advertising format to get the traffic to become customers. With so many struggling Entrepreneurs today, it is easy to fall to the bottom of the barrel, and lose traffic to similar sites. Keeping your sites, hubs or blogs current and adding new content daily will help you rise to the top. Besides promotions, you may also venture to add specials or discounts that will attract heavier traffic flow.

Keeping these moneymaking opportunities in mind, do not forget to research all avenues to ensure you have the time, patience and attitude to stick with your ventures until they become fruitful.
