Ukulhas Local Island Budget Guest House Tour in Maldives: Koimala Beach Guest House

Upon our arrival, we were greeted by the guest house manager at the Ukulhas dock. We handed our luggage to the buggy (like electric golf carts), but the manager suggested we should walk after a long boat ride.

He went through a lot of information about the island and Maldives while we were walking through the Maldives local island paradise. They handed us a chilled face towel straight from the refrigerator once we arrived. It felt like heaven after walking in sweltering  33°C temperatures. They also even brought us a welcome drink.

Breakfast and Dinner: Eight Options Every Morning

Koimala had surprisingly extensive breakfast for a small guest house. Breakfast included eight choices, split between four international and four local dishes. We had to choose the breakfast and dinner (included in the price) the night before. For dinner, you can choose salad or soup, a main course, and dessert. Soft drinks and a “juice of the day” round out the meal.

Activities: Manta, Sharks, and Lagoon Trips

Koimala organizes manta ray excursions, shark snorkeling, and lagoon trips around Ukulhas and nearby atolls. They even offer combined trips for travelers who want to see multiple highlights in one day. As we had already finished our whale shark and sand bank tours in Dhigurah, we passed on any activities and decided to explore the island on our own.

Rooms, Layout & Dining

The rooms are simple but functional, featuring an open‑style bathroom, direct garden access, Wi‑Fi, and a self-service minibar. The outdoor lounge area offers traditional Maldivian seating, swings, and shaded spaces.

The dining and breakfast area is set in the inner garden courtyard—a serene, open-air oasis on soft coral sand. Surrounded by lush tropical greenery, curved stone paths connect a shaded straw-thatched dining gazebo with traditional wooden undhoali swings suspended from nearby trees. It had fantastic ambience—we ended up eating there twice a day.

The chef and server took such great care of us that I made a point to personally thank them with a tip after every dinner.

Koimala Beach Guest House is best described as a local, warm, and true reflection of Maldivian true hospitality — ideal for travelers who prefer authenticity over a polished, artificial resort.
